Harrisburg Fringe Festival

ADVENTUROUS ARTISTS SEEKING ADVENTUROUS AUDIENCES…

For years, many artists in the Harrisburg area have discussed the advantages and possibilities of our city hosting a Fringe Festival. Given our mission and goals to uplift marginalized and experimental artists and to connect our arts community to community spaces, a Fringe has proven to be a logical (and exciting) extension of 717 Arts’ mission-driven work. Feel free to reach out to us via the HFF website to find out more and get involved with the Fringe.

FRINGE: DO SOMETHING WEIRD

Key things to know about Fringe Festivals: traditionally (and according to the international norms established at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and observed broadly at nearly all international Festivals, and some U.S. Festivals) Fringe Festivals are…

  • Empowering to the Artist: Fringes are non-adjudicated (meaning, all willing artists can be involved), uncensored, safe artistic spaces for boundary-pushing, experimental work

  • Respectful of the Artist: Artists keep the full ticket sales of their shows, performances, and events

A MISSION FOR THE MARGINS AND FRINGES

Our Fringe aspires to respectfully honor these international norms. Additionally, we’ll be striving to meet the following local goals:

  • Community-wide collaborations between artists, organizations, groups, venues, supporters, local government, & local businesses in the most mutually beneficial arrangements possible

  • A “family friendly Fringe” set of offerings, including children’s theatre, puppetry, drag story hour, music for kids, and more

  • A commitment to safe and brave spaces and working with artists, groups, and businesses whose track records show their commitment to inclusivity, safety, and supporting diverse perspectives

  • Building a large-scale coalition of local volunteers, artists, organizations, and venues from and working in support of the 717 arts communities
